Born in Sunderland in the North East of England. James Grummett studied Fine Art at the University of Northumbria at Newcastle and shortly after completed a PGCE at the University of Plymouth. Taking him into Secondary education teaching Art and Photography at GCSE and A-level.

 

James has lived and worked along the Jurassic Coast, West Dorset for the past 20 years, both  teaching and leading highly successful Art departments within the local area and currently lives on the Isle of Portland.

 

His works encapsulates the fusion of photography and painting, incorporating the traditional and digital. Inspired by the weather conditions on Portland's micro-climate  James' recent practice explores traditional artistic mediums combined with elements of digitally manipulated photographs. He works from drawings and photographs created on walks. using charcoal, oil paint and acrylic to capture paintings that show a visual contradiction.
